Burning Blue is a creative, fun and passionate emerging rock band from Johannesburg. I (Dana) know each one of the band members from either primary or high school. I’d never actually been able to make it to a gig of their’s before, but when I did arrive to photograph them at Rumours Lounge in Weltevreden Park, it was nothing short of a fantastic surprise.
Initially they were people I knew but had never seen them with so much as a xylophone to use before, and here they were, on stage, clutching their instruments with a buzzing energy only musicians seem to have. Song after song, originals and covers, were fantastic, and their dedicated fans cheered on every note and beat. It was a fantastic sight to see, some emerging South African rock that is being appreciated and showcased to Johannesburg.
These guys are great to watch, their music is heartfelt, unique and something you’d happily hit the ‘repeat’ button to because it’s that good. So if you’re in the Johannesburg area, go to Burning Blue’s Facebook page and check out their upcoming gigs, because you won’t be disappointed.
Thanks so much to Hunter, Stephen, Dylan, Ryan, Fletcher, Angie and Mac for getting me to photograph them and introducing me to some fantastic music, which I hope to be hearing more of soon!
